History

Trudis’ Place started in August 1986 as a “sari-sari” store or small convenience store fronting the beach in Tawala, Panglao Island, Bohol. A few weeks after the store opened, it began serving coffee because several customers were asking for beverage. This event began the growth of the store into more than just a sari-sari store.

A few months not long after, the store began to serve breakfast then lunch and not long after, they also began to serve dinner. But, inspite of the progress, there were still few customers because they lack a menu during that time. Realizing that they should do something, the staff began asking the first customers, who were mostly foreigners, what they liked to be served and how to cook it. After the order has been made, Trudis herself, whom the store was named after, will do the cooking in front of the customers just so they would really get what they liked. The idea seemed to work because this method of providing service continued for a year until such time that Trudis learned the methods of cooking the meals and their customers became thier friends. After gaining the knowledge on the methods of cooking, Trudis’ Place began printing a menu which featured mostly the cuisine and dishes that they learned how to cook. Because of the method of serving food that sprang out of the ingenuity of Trudis, Trudis’ Place’s menu now boasts of a mixture of Boholano, Philippine and mostly European cuisine.

To make the mark of progress more obvious, Trudis’ Place, which initially had native cottages at the beach for their services which only lasted 3 years before rotting away, decided to put up the buliding which now provides more convenience, high-class rooms, a bar, a dining area and a nice view of the beach with other tourists and locals strolling around. And what’s more, if you check in earlier, you could be in one of their very luxurios rooms which offers a splendid view of the sea.
